About the role:
A typical day for a Senior Controls Engineer could look like this:
Developing and improving control systems
Applying control‑theory thinking to shape system and sub‑system requirements
Reviewing, managing, and refining system and sub‑system performance, keeping sight of how each part affects the full product
Supporting delicate noise‑handling work at sub‑nanometer scale
Helping applications, manufacturing, and service teams diagnose issues and resolve faults
Preparing and maintaining clear, useful technical documentation
Leading as a subject‑matter expert and trusted voice within the company
Owning technical development work and supporting failure analysis
Planning technical activities to support integration and testing
Demonstrating and validating design performance
Feeding forward learning into upcoming designs and next‑generation development
Who we are looking for:
To succeed as a Senior Controls Engineer, we do need you to have experience of:
Practical engineering development activities.
Technical leadership and mentoring on Control Systems.
Demonstrable knowledge of Feedback and Feedforward loops
Project management: timekeeping, resource management, updates to key stakeholders.
Fluency in written and oral technical English
Confident presentation skills
Nice to have:
Digital filtering (ideally in Field Programmable Gate Array - FPGAs)
Driving piezos, and knowledge of hysteresis in piezos.
Metrology and measurement systems.
Electronics and/or Electrical design.
Guiding systems/products through EMC and various regulatory testing.
Semi S2 standard.
PLC software and control systems.
Education / Qualifications:
Either a BSc/BEng in Physics, Engineering or similar, or a clear equivalent path through relevant apprenticeship or accumulated experience.
