Role Summary
Firmus is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to lead the preparation, governance, and delivery of high quality financial reporting in accordance with IFRS, ASX reporting requirements, and internal governance standards.
The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for managing the end to end external financial reporting process, including statutory accounts, liaising with the auditors and managing complex technical accounting matters. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial information across the organisation and plays a key role in supporting finance leadership with insight, and technical accounting advice.
Operating within a high growth technology environment, the Senior Financial Accountant partners closely with finance, legal, commercial, and operational teams to embed strong financial controls, strengthen reporting processes, and support the organisation’s compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulatory frameworks, and audit requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead external financial reporting
Oversee the preparation, review, and delivery of statutory financial statements and associated disclosures in accordance with IFRS.
Manage the ASX reporting cycle, ensuring compliance with continuous disclosure, periodic reporting, and governance requirements.
Technical accounting & advisory
Provide technical accounting leadership on complex areas including revenue recognition, lease accounting, financial instruments, business combinations, and consolidation matters.
Draft technical accounting papers to support key judgements, estimates, and accounting treatments.
Financial controls & governance
Strengthen internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) and support the development of accounting policies and procedures.
Ensure alignment with best practice reporting governance, disclosure controls, and finance assurance processes.
Process improvement & systems
Lead continuous improvement in reporting processes, close procedures, documentation quality, and financial systems upstream data.
Contribute to finance transformation initiatives and enhancements to internal reporting frameworks.
Stakeholder engagement
Partner with cross-functional teams—including Legal, Risk, Operations, and Commercial—to ensure accurate financial reporting and strong governance.
Provide training and guidance to finance and operational staff on accounting standards and reporting requirements.
Skills & Experience
Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in external reporting, technical accounting, or audit, ideally within a listed or fast growth environment.
CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent) with deep knowledge of IFRS and ASX reporting requirements.
Strong technical accounting capability with demonstrated experience preparing statutory financial statements.
Experience managing external audits and complex technical matters.
Proven ability to interpret accounting standards, develop accounting position papers, and communicate complex concepts clearly.
Highly developed analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Experience improving reporting processes, financial systems, or internal controls.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments.
High level of integrity, judgement, and professionalism.
