This role offers an opportunity to take on a leadership position in the management of construction projects, ensuring high-quality execution and adherence to timelines and budgets. The Assistant Superintendent will supervise designated phases of projects, coordinate trades and subcontractors, and oversee the purchase and deployment of materials and equipment. Acting as a key support to the Project Superintendent, this position involves monitoring work quality, enforcing safety standards, and mentoring team members. You will be responsible for both operational and administrative aspects of your assigned project scope, including resolving conflicts, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring compliance with design and building codes. The role is ideal for an experienced construction professional who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys problem-solving, and is committed to team excellence and safety.
Accountabilities:
Supervise designated phases or scopes of construction projects, coordinating trades, subcontractors, and resources effectively.
Plan and implement construction techniques, including formwork, temporary structures, materials handling, and crew deployment.
Purchase general materials, requisition rental equipment, and monitor project costs for labor and supplies.
Ensure accurate layout, line, and grade for assigned work phases, and verify dimensions against design drawings and shop drawings.
Enforce quality control, safety programs, and proper worksite conduct; set an example for dress and safety awareness.
Mentor and train permanent construction employees, identify high performers, and conduct performance evaluations.
Advise management on extra work requests, project variances, and staffing decisions; recommend hiring, firing, or disciplinary actions as needed.
Take charge of project operations in the absence of the Superintendent, maintaining project continuity and standards.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; strong verbal and written communication skills.
Minimum 5–7 years of construction industry experience, including at least one year as a Craft Foreman.
Understanding of building codes, design drawings, and construction procedures.
Certification in First Aid, CPR, and OSHA 10-hour course (current within three years).
Strong organizational, delegation, and time management skills.
Ability to provide clear verbal and written instructions, troubleshoot issues, and solve problems independently.
Excellent attention to detail, observation, and analytical skills; ability to align work with company vision and values.
Physical ability to perform tasks including standing, walking, lifting 10–50 pounds, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and operating equipment safely.
