We are looking for a seasoned leader to own the engineering efforts for the team that creates the Discovery Services for Fire TV. As Director of Software - Discovery, you are responsible for technical solutions that enable the global Fire TV catalogue (video, live channels, games, apps, art, music), search, and personalization. These services are the foundation of the Fire TV experience and make it personalized. In this role, you will own the engineering activities that are needed to design, implement, and operate the global catalogue that powers Fire TV sticks, Cubes, and TVs made by both Amazon and third party TV makers. This role requires understanding of cloud services, data science, and core engineering operational excellence. In addition to engineering, this role manages the science team that works hand in hand with product and engineering to create the best search and personalization experiences.

• Deliver on the discovery roadmap, shipping dozens of programs per year
• Define the engineering direction of the team

• Drive strategic thinking on how to develop and deliver on our roadmap and business goals
• Define organization structure and operation for a large, global team
• Deep dive and understand our technical engagement with our Fire TV partners--internal and external
• Participate in leadership forums defining the technical roadmap for the business
• Communicate across the organization innovation initiatives and technical investments
A day in the life
Your engineering organization will design new capabilities, operate the global catalogue, and run experiments to test options that improve customer experience. You are a leader of people managers and oversee engineers, architects, and principal engineers. As a core member of senior staff, you have an opportunity to influence the technical direction of the business.

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical field
• 10+ Years of managing managers experience
• 10+ Years of technology leadership, managing engineers and building teams
• Proven track record in development and manufacturing of consumer electronic devices
• Strong judgement and business acumen in determining strategic vision and running a complex business
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Demonstrated leadership and strong judgement in managing growth and diversity in a fast-expanding organization
Preferred Qualifications
• MBA or other advanced degree
• Proven experience with personalization programs
• Extensive TV or related industry experience
• Passion for operational excellence

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
