Help Shape the Future of Robotics, Earn Income
We are looking for paid participants to record videos of everyday activities at your home and/or at our Menlo Park lab wearing a head-mounted camera. These videos will be used to help robotics to learn how to perceive, understand and interact with real-world environments. You will record yourself doing things you already do in your daily life such as folding laundry, making or preparing food, cleaning/tidying up and sorting items, rearranging items etc. If you’re detail-oriented, comfortable performing everyday tasks and earning additional income to contribute to cutting-edge robotics research, we’d love to work with you!
What to Expect
Your main goal is to capture < 20 hours of footage weekly that shows clear and intentional arm, hand and finger movements interacting with objects and your environment (e.g., folding clothes or using a screwdriver), rather than low-value activities like typing, using your phone, or sitting idle.
On a weekly-basis, you will be required to upload your footage to a Google Drive on a timely basis, perform basic quality checks on recordings, and track your own day-to-day filming progress. No robotics or technical background is required.
You will be compensated based off the total number of usable footage provided a monthly-basis.
Examples of unusable footage: footage captured in the dark, footage showing only fingers and not your full hands and arms, footage of idle activities (sitting around, driving, using your phone, watching TV etc.), footage that captures personal information, etc.
Project duration will be assessed on a month-to-month basis
You are free to film as much task-specific, high quality, usable footage as you want, making this a great way to earn some extra income whilst completing your already day-to-day tasks.
Day In the Life
During filming, you will:
Wear a company-loaned head mounted DJI Osmo Nano/GoPro camera, Meta Quest headset, or your phone via a provided baseball cap, or head strap
Film tasks according to filming best practices
Ensure successful recordings, before uploading the files to a drive for submission
Get paid.
Example Tasks and Video
Picking up, placing, and organizing objects
Sorting items by size, color, or category
Using simple tools (e.g., screwdriver, cloth, utensils)
Cleaning or wiping surfaces
Assembling or disassembling simple objects
Reaching and placing objects at varying distances

Who You Are
You must be a US citizen, or Green Card holder
Must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area
Must have a smartphone with a wide camera (0.5x zoom), a computer + internet connection to upload videos
Ability to follow detailed instructions carefully
Comfort performing light physical tasks (standing, reaching, grasping objects)
Ability to move naturally, slowly, and deliberately during recordings
Reliability and punctuality for scheduled sessions
Willing to go to our office once for a 1-time, 30-minute training
Open to go through a background check
Compensation
This is a 1099 independent contractor role compensated at $14.00 per hour of approved, usable video footage of you simply filming your already-everyday tasks.
Usable footage constitutes footage clearly showing hand and arm movement, filmed in a well-lit environment completing activities relevant for robotics training.
This role is not eligible for employee benefits or equity.
Who Can Apply
We value participation from individuals of all backgrounds. All qualified participants will be considered regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age or veteran status.
